What is 'Why Can't You Be Normal'?

"Why Can't You Be Normal?" is an immersive audio piece that follows Hayley, a 36-year-old mother battling addiction as she navigates the complexities of recovery. A year after losing custody of her two children, they are set to return to live with her, marking a pivotal week in her life. The story takes listeners into Hayley's mind, where the omnipresent threat of relapse is personified by a snarling wolf.

Hayley is a fictional character devised by those in recovery, using their skills, imagination and lived experience as inspiration.

The link to listen to 'Why Can't You Be Normal?' - a 25 minute immersive audio story coproduced by people with lived experience of Addiction and Recovery.
An accompanying audio insight package exploring the barriers and challenges faced by families affected by Addiction and Recovery, and how we can involve them in rerearch to support training and knowledge in this field. The audio features the voices and lived experience of people affected by this issue.
Transcripts to accompany the audio.
Signposting information where support can be found for individuals affected by the issues explored.
