Free talk to be held in Rugby on the 27th January God willing.Eighty years after the liberation of Auschwitz, we reflect on the history of the Kindertransport and its powerful connection to the Christadelphians in Rugby.
During the dark years leading up to World War II, when Jewish families in Europe faced relentless persecution, a small ray of hope appeared in the programme known as The Kindertransport. This initiative rescued nearly 10,000 Jewish children, transporting them to safety in Great Britain where they were taken in by families and foster homes across the country.
Among the few who worked to bring these children to safety were the Christadelphians, a small Christian community deeply rooted in Biblical teachings. Notably, Rugby shopkeeper Alan Overton dedicated himself to finding homes and sponsors for approximately 250 of these children.
But what motivated this little-known group of believers to take in so many children?
Why did they open their homes, sacrificing personal comfort for children they had never met? This talk explores the Christadelphians' motivations, driven by a profound belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which the Bible describes as ‘the hope of Israel’, centred in the promises made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
This illustrated talk is free for anyone to attend and will be held at ‘The Christadelphian Hall’, 76 Oliver Street, Rugby, CV21 2LE on Monday 27th January at 8pm. Refreshments to follow.
