About this Event
Ever wondered who once lived in Chester's old buildings? This short walking tour around the Northgate and Abbey Square area reveals how the city's historic sites and buildings have changed in ownership, appearance and use over time.
Led by volunteer guide Maria Owen, the walk takes in the area's rich collection of Georgian townhouses built for Chester's middle and upper classes in the 18th century — but this tour tells the stories of all who called the city centre home.
From architects, doctors and clergy to merchants, mayors and writers; from innkeepers and working people to the occasional criminal, the full sweep of Chester life is etched into these streets. Come and discover who was behind the doors.
