(w)Holistic Healing NYC Inaugural by Rebel Cause Inc. Healing by way of African and Indigenous tradition
About this Event

Welcome to the (w)Holistic Healing NYC launch in support by Rebel Cause Inc.

At this event, we are bringing forth wellness, healing and entertainment free for the community.

(w)Holistic Healing NYC strives to showcase and honor Indigenous healing practices, including those of African and Orient descent, to expand these healing modalities to culturally aligned under-resourced low-income communities.

This project examines the application of Indigenous spiritual practices to teach and ultimately offer an alternative to the suppressive mental health strategies propagated by Western philosophies of counseling and psychotherapy that are focused on resolving concerns relevant to Western societies. These practices often exclude or selectively accept Indigenous practices for the benefits of Western societies that may not extend appreciation. This discrimination has stifled the intercommunal exchange (w)Holistic Healing NYC seeks to create to rectify Western practices of counseling and psychotherapy that tote universal treatment methods for control over a market that does not successfully serve all in need. (w)Holistic Healing NYC is interested in creating a network of healers informed by Indigenous healing practices to advise communities in New York of alternative ways to heal from the ills of colonialism and imperialism that have impoverished our communities

The restorative connection that these practices have on and within BIPOC communities is immense and profound to experience when there is a disconnect with the body; not intentionally, rather the pressure and the oppression that white supremacy has upon marginalized folxs is traumatizing to the body, heart, mind and spirit. This can manifest in physical, mental and even psychological pain that we carry and have to navigate the world with. When the space is provided for healing circles (for example, the medicine wheel within transformative justice practices as part of healing work and survivor connective networks), there is the restorative mechanism of re-alignment within one’s self and the transformative nature of stopping harm and creating new conditions for thriving and success, despite conditions like access to therapy, medical racism and other financial barriers imposed on us by white supremacist and centric society at large.
