Who was Moses Pergament?

It may come as a surprise to some to hear of the existance of a Finnish-born composer who collaborated with such world-renowned names as Nobel Prize winner Nelly Sachs, cellist Gaspar Cassado and Sergei Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes, yet remains all but forgotten himself. How did this happen?
Welcome to Arkadia International Bookshop on April 9 at 5 pm to hear the unlikely life story of composer, violinist and music critic Moses Pergament.
Pianist Martin Malmgren will talk about Pergament's life and perform music spanning through his entire compositional career, from unpublished teenage works found in the childhood friend Yrjö Kilpinen's archives to later works. Violinist Sebastian Silén joins for a performance of parts of the violin sonata, one of the composer's major early works.
This lecture-recital takes place prior to performances of Moses Pergament's piano concerto by Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra, conductor Sasha Mäkilä and pianist Martin Malmgren, taking place in Kauniainen and Helsinki on April 11-12 - likely the first public performances of the work in Finland.
