In 1947 Los Angeles animated cartoon characters or “toons” co-exist with humans, their skills often employed to entertain Hollywood film stars. Private detective Eddie Valient (Bob Hoskins) is drawn into a murder mystery involving toon star Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer) and his glamorous wife Jessica (voiced by Kathleen Turner). Mixing noir plot with slapstick energy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit uses technical innovation to tell a story about prejudice, power and erased histories. Spearheading a renewed interest in modern American animation, its playful surface masks a surprisingly dark vision of conspiracy, corruption and control.
