Welcome to Richmond’s Whitewater Gorge! This ride takes you to Richmond’s beginnings. The route is only 6 miles and has only 3 inclines. A multi-geared bike is best.Starting at 10:30 AM from our usual starring point at Elstro Plaza we’ll take the City Loop a couple city blocks west to South Fourth Street. Along South Fourth we’ll be walking our bikes through the annual 4th Street Fair.
We hop on our bikes and take S 5th St to merge onto Liberty Ave to Test Road. Turning west on Test Road we find the entrance to the Gorge Trail.
We’ll take the Gorge Trail adjacent to the Whitewater River passing under the G Street Bridge. We’ll cross river at the Starr-Gennett area and roll upon the Starr-Gennett Walk of Fame. Taking time there we’ll continue up South 1st under the Lamar Lundy Memorial Bridge (US 40) and find City Loop at the Main & Old National Road Bridge junction.
We’ll pedal the City loop 6 blocks back Elstro Plaza at N 7th Street where we started.
