Discover the diverse designs of architect John A. Hasecoster, “the man who built Richmond,” on a two-hour guided walking tour of the city’s historic architecture. Practicing during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Hasecoster’s portfolio spans from quaint Queen Anne cottages to sprawling industrial complexes with over 150 projects to his credit. Though Hasecoster’s designs were built beyond Richmond, his work is considered instrumental in shaping the city he called home.Tourgoers will begin the afternoon with an inside look at the grand Gennett Mansion, designed by the architect for one of Richmond’s wealthiest nineteenth-century families, before proceeding to Main Street for a closer look at the varied designs of Hasecoster’s commercial buildings completed between 1877 and 1900.
