White Noise — Damien Rowlands & Brent ConlanCanterbury-born acoustic duo White Noise bring a 45-minute set of stripped-back classics to the folk club.
Damien, a veteran of the Canterbury music scene and guitar tutor at Elite Studios, supplies fluid, melodic lead guitar that drives the arrangements. Brent leads with a rich baritone that carries the songs, while also adding tasteful background guitar accompaniment. Together they lock in for the kind of tight vocal harmonies that lift familiar tunes into something fresh. (Brent’s parents claim he was born already able to sing — they swear the first thing he did was belt out “Happy Birthday” to himself in the key of G.)
The setlist runs from Dylan and The Band to Springsteen, Willie Nelson, AC/DC and Chris Isaak: “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “The Weight,” “On the Road Again,” “I’m on Fire,” “Wicked Game,” and a few more you’ll be singing along to before the second chorus. Easy company for a Sunday.
The Luemdillies : 'Darling Buds of May' Tour
The Luemdillies are a creative five-piece vocal and instrumental line-up from the Garden City of Otautahi, Christchurch, New Zealand.
The Luemdillies bring to the stage the sounds of vocals, stringed instruments, bass and drum. The musical songs written and played are inflections of personal stories and celebrate life forged on the wide expanses of the Canterbury plains. The sounds of the Luemdilles unite, with genuine simplicity and humour, catchy melodies that are infused with touches of the blues, country, folk, celtic and even a whisper of punk.
This is a band whose musical journey will make you want to let your heart listen and get your feet dancing.
