Seminar 1 - What's the Problem?
Have you ever had any training issues pop up and you weren’t quite sure what to do?
Do you wonder why certain things fail or break down in detection sport over time?
You can turn the clock back and find solutions with ‘What’s the problem?’ Seminar with Karen Bereti
‘What’s the problem?’ Is a deep dive into foundational training cracks. Karen will take you through a process of identifying issues and then coming up with practical solutions to work on those training issues while still maintaining fun and encouraging searches for your dog. Many topics will be covered, such as false alerts, odour obedience, debunking train myths, foundation training issues that can haunt you down the road, and the fixes. This seminar is fantastic for not being restricted to exact topics but for exploring each team’s individual journeys and questions or concerns.
This seminar will include human-only-focused learning, starting with a presentation followed by running teams on relevant nose work exercises. This seminar will start at 8 am and run until 12 pm. Over the 4 hours we will take breaks between running dogs and going back to human-only learning. This is suitable for dog-reactive dogs, as dogs work one at a time. Not suitable for human-aggressive dogs, please.

Seminar 2 - Dive into distractors!
As an full-time nose work instructor and judge, Karen’s favourite response when she or her clients get asked if there were any distractors in their high-level searches is, “I don’t know.”
Casually… as that was the last thing on their mind or their dog’s mind!
Animal, toy, food, and environmental distractors will be covered in this 4-hour seminar. This will start with human learning at 12:45 pm and run until 4:45 pm. Working spots will get to run exercises to improve their skills and learn strategies to conquer fear of distractors.
Becoming a master of distractors is very obtainable, especially when really understanding in-depth dog behaviour. The seminar will cover a range of topics in the distractor realm. Karen will take distractors from something to fear to something fun to practice and not worry about running into later. What distractors!?
This is suitable for dog-reactive dogs, as dogs work one at a time. Not suitable for human-aggressive dogs, please.

About Karen Bereti:
Karen has always had a love for animals and a particular interest in working with dogs. Her interest in becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer was inspired by one of her personal dogs and their behaviour issues over 13 years ago. 12 years later, and she is still specializing in this industry, in aggression/fear/reactivity, and separately K9 Nose Work. Karen is always advancing her skills & knowledge to the most current science has to offer in both ends of her specialties. Karen’s work with fearful dogs and her history of dog training prior to nose work training have given her a special insight into dog behaviour that is not just sport.
Karen believes in building a strong bond with your dog through relationship, mutual respect, and fun! K9 Nose Work has become her main focus for over 9 years, which led her to achieve her Certified Nose Work Instructor certification through the NACSW. Karen’s teaching style is always straightforward and logical; you will know why you are doing something and what the end result is going to be.
When not teaching upwards of 14 Nose Work classes a week, you can find her judging at CKC, SSL, CWags, ABC Games, or CDSA.
On the off chance she is not hosting or judging trials, she will be running her personal dogs, who all have a large number of nose work titles in over 8 different organizations/venues, including a Chihuahua, Whippet, and Labrador.
Years back, Karen founded the Canadian Sport Detection Association to bring a certain style of trial to Canada with very high standards, aiming to provide the best trial experience to participants. Now also bringing CDSA and nose work seminars in person to new locations and getting to meet new amazing people is a very rewarding experience for her.
