WHAT'S BENEATH YOUR FEET AT PANSHANGER PARK
Come join us at PANSHANGER PARK for a fascinating event exploring the hidden geological world that lies beneath your feet!
Join Jane, our volunteer geologist as she takes you on a guided walk to discover the geology beneath your feet, how the underlying chalk was formed, why we have a chalk stream here, and how we have different types of gravel in the valley and on its surrounding slopes.
With frequent stops to provide you with information, the walk will be on unmade paths lasting roughly 2 hours. Starting at the Stable Block, the walk will be about 2km, passing the site of Panshanger House, descending the incline to the valley bottom, and ending at the river Mimram, one of our rare chalk streams. From there, you make your own way up the hill back to the Stable Block and your car.
As David, another of our volunteers who specialises in the Park’s history, is joining us on this walk, he has offered to take anyone who’s interested to see the Panshanger Oak and the Orangery on the way back to the cars. He may even add snippets of information during the outbound walk!
Please meet at Panshanger Stables where free parking is available. Enter the Park through the B1000 Tarmac entrance by the White Lodge and follow the track down to the right. (What3Words location - ///crust.nodded.alive) The area will be locked at 1pm so if you wish to explore the Park further you will need to move your car to one of the the chargeable car parks.
