Join the Terner Center & Labs on Thursday, March 12 to explore the affordability challenge from a housing perspective.
About this Event

People across the country are experiencing an affordability crisis. About half of U.S. renters are cost-burdened, spending a third of their income on housing; more than a quarter spend half of their income or more. High housing costs constrain labor mobility, deepen racial and economic inequities, and erode household financial stability.

Join the Terner Center and Terner Labs on Thursday, March 12, for "Whatever it Takes: Tackling the Housing Affordability Crisis." We’ll hear from practitioners and scholars, who will share innovations and evidence-backed approaches to make housing affordable.

The event also marks the 30th anniversary of the passing of our namesake Don Terner, who took a “whatever it takes” approach to the housing crisis. Throughout the conversation, we’ll draw on lessons learned from Don’s work driving California housing policy reform, launching a Bay Area affordable housing nonprofit, and educating future housing leaders at UC Berkeley.

The event will take place at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club, with a networking reception at 4:30pm. The program will begin at 5:30pm.

If you require an accommodation for effective communication (ASL interpreting/alternative media formats, etc.) or information about campus mobility access features in order to fully participate in this event, please contact Jessie Modlin at [email protected] by February 26.
