The Topic for September: What you don’t like about Health Insurance and How to Fix it…

Ethically hacking health insurance.

Summary

Finding qualified employees, particularly those that are loyal and enthusiastic, is a huge challenge. Employee benefits, primarily health insurance, have become burdensome instead of the attractive asset it was 50 years ago. Annual premium increases can exceed 20%. Deductibles are regularly over $5,000. No price transparency. No quality control.

The presentation and conversation will be 6 proven strategies for controlling costs now and in future years. The strategies that have worked for decades for enterprise-sized businesses are now working for small / mid-sized businesses. Groups typically see a 10% decrease when switching (instead of a 10% increase for a renewal). Rates in subsequent are typically below the rate of inflation in future years without reducing benefits or changing doctors – and equally important is that employees feel both appreciated and engaged. We’ll explain why it works and discuss how to apply them in your company.

About the Speaker

Hal has decades of experience in disruptive technology as a service provider in Silicon Valley, New York and Atlanta. His wife is a nurse practitioner, who creates care plans to provide treatment that is paid for by the insurance companies or patients. Seeing the dramatically rising costs (some of the highest in the world), the lack of transparency and the lack of consumerism, he saw the deep pain of the broken healthcare system. It starts with misaligned incentives and goes downhill.

When he discovered direct primary care and ACA-compliant insurance alternatives, he saw an opportunity for change. It demands understanding the difference between healthcare and health insurance, creating innovative solutions, and listening to people’s stories. Success requires grasping both the broader healthcare ecosystem and the details of insurance plan design.

The changes align with the tenets of Conscious Capitalism, an organization that he is a board member of. Hal is an licensed broker ranked in the top 5% by one of his carriers.

Hal and his wife Alison, Syracuse University graduates, live in Atlanta and recently placed their 108th rescued golden retriever. Hal's American Red Cross blood drives, aided by Variant Brewing's "a pint for a pint" incentive, have collected over 500 pints. He also combines his passion for sailing with client support.
