‘We Are Stardust’ follows Norwegian Jon Larsen, a true Renaissance man who spends his days as a musician, but one day a tiny particle lands on his breakfast table. He believes it can be stardust. From that day on, he dedicates his life to searching for micrometorites — the universe’s microscopic gifts. The film’s director, Elisabeth Rasmussen, follows Jon’s journey from hobby enthusiast all the way into the world of science in an attempt to prove that what Jon finds are indeed real scientific discoveries. After the screening, we look closer at the pratice of the term Citizen Science. We discuss how knowledge can arise from anywhere and how it can then be incorporated into scientific practice. When does skepticism become healthy? What role does intuition and wonder play in cognition? And do outsiders and amateur researchers have a real place in science?
