What it takes to be Hip (or Knee!): The development of joint replacement

Rob Sawyer was originally a Johnson & Johnson Material Scientist investigating porous hip replacement coatings. He became a designer for custom implants, mainly hips & knees but also elbows, shoulders, fingers & wrists. He has also been involved in instrument design facilitating joint replacement implantation including robotic assisted surgery. He has moved into project, product, general management and now consulting in this arena. He has a couple of patents!
The lecture will cover the development of joint replacement, what you need to consider if you wanted to launch a new implant, and what the future might hold. It will cover some of the technical aspects, but will balance the broader, holistic side to the orthopaedic implant business with lighter more humorous touches.
After the talk, there will be a Q&A session where attendees will be able to ask questions.
