About this Event

Arun Kundnani talks to Kojo Koram about What is Antiracism? And Why It Means Anticapitalism, Kundnani’s radical study of structural racism and its inherent links to the neoliberal, capitalist world order.

Liberals have been arguing for nearly a century that racism is fundamentally an individual problem of extremist beliefs. Meanwhile, thinkers like C.L.R. James, Claudia Jones, and Frantz Fanon showed how racism was connected to colonialism and capitalism. Kundnani continues this tradition of radical anticolonialism to show how effectively fighting racism means attacking its capitalist roots.

Arun Kundnani is an Adjunct Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University, and teaches terrorism studies at John Jay College. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Leiden University, Netherlands, an Open Society Fellow, and the Editor of the journal Race and Class. He is the author of The Muslims Are Coming!:Islamophobia, Extremism, and the Domestic War on Terror.

Kundnani will be in conversation with Kojo Koram. Koram is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Birkbeck School of Law. In 2022 he published his debut book Uncommon Wealth: Britain and the Aftermath of Empire, which was nominated for the 2022 Orwell Prize for Political Writing.

Doors will open from 6:45pm.
