‘What could possibly go wrong with an escalator?’

Escalators are often overlooked as to the importance of getting their specification right for not just the escalator itself but its traffic handling capabilities, interaction with pedestrians and their location. Dave has over 40 years experience in the lift & escalator industry and will take us through the applicable standards and what can go wrong with escalators including location, specification, passenger input, component failure and so on. A presentation full of information and interesting CCTV footage.

Speaker's biography:
David is the CEO of LECS (UK) Ltd and LECS UAE. He has been in the lift & escalator industry since 1980 and is a well-known industry author and speaker.

David became a CIBSE Vice President at the AGM, which took place on 13 June 2023 at the Royal Society, London. He is a former chair and treasurer of the CIBSE Lifts Group, and now leads the groups training and development.

David started his career as an apprentice with the British Railways Board followed by a period with KONE, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of lifts and escalators, where he was a service engineer rising to Regional Safety Manager. Following this he became an engineer surveyor with Royal Insurance UK undertaking statutory inspections and witnessing commissioning. During this period, he was also responsible for training engineer surveyors. He joined LECS (UK) Ltd in 1991.

He was awarded the Sir Moir Lockhead award by the SOE in 2021 and received an MBE for services to the lift & escalator industry in the Kings Birthday Honours list in June 2023.
