About this Event

Discover how you can step out of your habits and see yourself and the world afresh!

Led by Embodied Learning Trainer Jaya Hartlein.

Participants will be invited to enter a shared space to engage in short exercises, using mindfulness and movement, listening in and out. We will be able to gain new perspectives on ourselves and how we relate to each other. Living with a sense of WONDER allows us to step into a new world, so even familiar experiences of ‘me’ shine in new ways.

The exercises will be fun to do, and will open the door for deeper reflection on who we are and how we are connected with the world around. There will be plenty of opportunity to share our experience.

Let Jaya Introduce herself...

Introduction: I bring together nearly 40 years of exploration into working with the mind and 25 years of research and practice of body-based methods. I enjoy working at the interface of disciplines and bridging the gap between inner work and outward activity.

I am a clown, a movement trainer, a poet, a tour guide, and I am interested in unlikely interdisciplinary meetings. My approach to teaching is light and playful. Over my life I have engaged in study, work and training in a wide spectrum, reaching from the contemplative to group performance, from solitary seclusion to journeying the world.

I use movement improvisation with particular emphasis on somatic awareness. As applied improvisation, I employ these methods within the world of psychological health and well-being, or with people engaged in spiritual practices like mindfulness, or within projects of socially engaged action. All my workshops and offers are placed within this field. In settings as diverse as day-workshops, week-long retreats or 3-week journeys I encourage participants to pay close attention to the way that inner experience and outer events arise together (...more on this on the page ).

Biography: Born in Düsseldorf/Germany in 1961, I moved to the UK in 1980 where I spent a total of 22 years, mainly in London. At the age of 20 I encountered teachings from the Buddhist tradition, which had a formative influence on my whole life. In 1990 I became a member of the and was given the name Jayachitta.

From the mid-nineties I developed an interest in story-telling, singing and performative methods, and discovered that there is a great deal of overlap between performative and contemplative methodologies. Since then my particular approach has been unfolding, and I enjoy sharing that exploration with others - the work continues!

I live in Berlin and work and teach in the UK, USA, India, Holland and Germany.

I continue study and practice of Buddhism and meditation with the teachings and guidance of

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talk for Health is a social enterprise that demystifies effective therapeutic talk, making it accessible to all. We make group peer to peer counselling something we can all do - whether for our own wellbeing, to help others, or both.
We are now operating programmes, tasters, groups and other events both online and in person, so you can choose what suits you best. Participants can join online events using their mobiles, laptops or tablets. Those without an internet connection or smartphone can dial in using regular mobile phones or landlines.
How does it work?
We provide initial training programmes that teach group peer-to-peer counselling skills and give you plenty of space to reflect on your own life. After training, Talk for Health Graduates gain access to free, monthly, ongoing groups for wellbeing, as well as occasional advanced learning groups and further training.
Further training is provided for Graduates to become trainers of the initial training programmes and/or facilitators of on-going groups.
All these free activities are made possible by funding from the Islington Clinical Commissioning Group as well as other grant-funding bodies. Some programmes are for Islington and Camden residents only, due to ICCG funding, and others are available only to those in Northeast London. Other events are open to all. Please contact us if you're not sure.
We also run special events that are open to everyone and hope to see you at one of our programmes or events soon.
If you would like further information then please email [email protected] or call/text 020 3409 3201.
Wish to support us? If you are able, please donate to save our service! Talk for Health needs help as we contend with a funding cliff-edge when people need us the most in the winter months. Please consider donating when signing up to an event on Eventbrite, or make a donation to our Crowdfunder campaign . All donations of all sizes are immensely appreciated. Thank you so much!
