Wexford Retro Movie Club, in association with Reel Reviews, is proud to launch its brand-new “A Conversation with” series, beginning with none other than acclaimed Wexford-born writer, Billy Roche. This special event takes place on Wednesday, 27th November at 7.30pm at Wexford Arts Centre.
The evening will open with a live podcast recording as the Reel Reviews team sits down with Billy for an in-depth conversation about his remarkable career. Audiences will hear first-hand stories behind his celebrated plays, novels, and screenwriting work, as well as his experiences bringing Irish voices to life on stage and screen.
Billy Roche is best known for his ground-breaking Wexford Trilogy (A Handful of Stars, Poor Beast in the Rain, and Belfry), which cemented his place as one of Ireland’s leading playwrights. His literary talents extend to acclaimed novels such as Tumbling Down and The Diary of a Dead Man, as well as short story collections that capture the rhythm and heart of Irish life.
In film, Roche’s work includes the IFTA Award-winning the Eclipse and the feature Trojan Eddie, starring Stephen Rea and Richard Harris, which showcased his gift for creating powerful and poignant Irish stories for the big screen. His screenwriting credits highlight his distinctive voice and flair for storytelling that resonates internationally while remaining rooted in Wexford.
Following the conversation, at 8.30pm, the night will continue with a very special and rare screening of a film connected to Billy Roche’s career — a true treat for fans and film lovers alike.
This promises to be a must-see evening for Billy Roche fans, Irish cinema enthusiasts, and anyone passionate about storytelling. Don’t miss the chance to spend an unforgettable night with one of Ireland’s most celebrated writers, hearing the stories from behind the scenes in his own words.
