About this Event
Wetland Birding Hike at 10:30 a.m.
· Registration REQUIRED by February 5.
· Free, but limited to 20 people (NO walk-ups!).
· Stillwater-Northfork Waterfowl Resting Area on McGowan Road (directions will be provided)
Stillwater-Northfork is Monroe Lake’s primary wildlife management area, a mix of seasonal wetlands, wildlife crop fields, permanent ponds, riparian corridors, and woodland plots. Local birder Edward Oehlman will lead a birding hike through a portion of this wetland complex, which is closed to the general public from October through mid-April. If the water is open, we’ll be able to look for scaups, wigeons, buffleheads, grebes, and other waterfowl. If the wetland is iced over, wrens, waxwings, wood warblers, sparrows, and other songbirds will be the focus. And Bald Eagles are always a good possibly! Bring your binoculars and dress for the weather! 90 minutes
