West Side Poetry Slam is a monthly open mic night where you can sign up on the night and perform an original piece of writing to open minds, hearts, and arms. Audience members score with a fun line of feedback and you could win a support feature slot at the next slam. Other performance art forms are also welcome. Anything can be poetry.
FEATURE - Jihad Yassine
Jihad Yassine is a poet and winner of the 2025 Bankstown Poetry Grand Slam. He was the 2024 Australian Poetry Slam Sydney Champion, and 2024 National Youth Poetry Slam finalist. He has featured at numerous poetry slams across Australia. He writes about the clash of identity in being an Arab man living in an English world, so as to give people who struggle with language and culture something to relate to. He loves to hike and explore nature and does so to keep himself in wonder of Allah. His debut collection “Home between the cedar trees” was released this year.

IF YOU'RE UNDER 18 you must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If you're under 18 and aren't planning on coming with an adult please message us to give us a headsup and we can have a volunteer step in to sign in with you.
