The Docklands Impounding Station is a feat of early mid-century engineering, built in 1929, few people realise that its three working pumps are still in use today! Normally closed to the public, this is a rare opportunity to see the internal workings of the pumping station that plays a vital role in maintaining the water levels of West India Docks.
Book now for a behind-the-scenes tour, and to find out more about Canal & River Trust. We're the charity who looks after 2000 miles of waterways nationally and we also look after many engineering and heritage assets like this one. In order to continue the great work we're doing as a charity, we run some ticketed events for events such as this one - we appreciate your support and hope you enjoy your visit!
Unfortunately we are only able to welcome guide dogs to this event this time. But please do look out for other events where all dogs would be most welcome!

Date: Friday 24th January & Saturday 25th January 2025
Time: Tours throughout each day between 10:00am - 3:00pm. The tour will include an outside tour followed by an indoor tour of the pumping station. Available times:

* 10:30am - 11:15am
* 11:00am - 11:45am
* 11:30am - 12:15pm
* 12:00pm - 12:45pm
* 1:30pm - 2:15pm
* 2:00pm - 2:45pm
* 2:30pm - 3:15pm
* 3:00pm - 3:45pm

* ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION *
Narrow steps down to the pumps inside the Impounding Station. We will have a tour running upstairs on a laptop for anyone who can't use the stairs - entrance to the upstairs part is accessible.
* PUBLIC TRANSPORT *
Nearest stations are Heron Quays (6 minute walk) and Canary Wharf (7 minute walk).
Bus routes: 135, 277, D7, D8
Please be aware that parking is limited in the area and there is no designated parking available.
