This talk reframes the question “Is it better to give or receive?” as a both/and: healthy giving requires healthy receiving, because relationships need reciprocity. Many of us over-give from approval, control, or fear of being a burden, and then struggle to receive without guilt—yet receiving is how connection completes the circuit. When we refuse to receive, we don’t just stay “independent”; we can also block the giver’s blessing—their joy, meaning, and sense of contribution—because giving is the throw and receiving is the catch
