Guest presenter: Glenn Taylor, Ship Welfare Associate (Volunteer)
The Mission to Seafarers (MTS) in Halifax approaches their 85th anniversary. Thousands of seafarers around the world visit 200 of these similar locations in 50 countries around the world.
With diverse needs at ports, the Halifax MTS is part of that network organization, welcoming everyone and how best to serve people from many cultures, faiths and backgrounds who face overwhelming physical, cultural and social isolation.
Glenn Taylor will share part of the mission’s history, activities and facilities available to seafarers visiting our port, and the various campaigns that help keep operations and series afloat.
Learn how this important organization provides support from a personal and work, on land perspective to keep the well-being of seafarers who are far away from home. You’ll hear stories of strength, courage and empowerment to support and serve.

After retiring from 34 years with the Halifax School Board, Glenn began working on the Halifax waterfront as a tour guide to visiting cruise ship passengers and as a volunteer with the Halifax Mission to Seafarers.
Giving tours to cruise ship passengers and assisting seafarers with the Mission to Seafarers has enabled him to share his love of Halifax and Nova Scotia. For over 15 years, he has enjoyed sharing stories, from describing Halifax's relation to the sinking of Titanic, to taking visiting seafarers for COVID vaccination shots during the heights of the recent pandemic.
As part of our free admission, community evening, we want to help our communities. On Tuesday nights, we welcome donations to Feed Nova Scotia to help our communities, and curb food insecurity, together!
