About this Event

This three‑week program supports people who are new to the country by helping them build confidence, understand local systems, and connect with their community. Each week focuses on a different aspect of settling in and developing essential skills for everyday life.

Week 1: Finding Help in the Community

The first week introduces participants to the local support networks available to them.
We explore:

  • Community organisations and support agencies that assist with settlement, housing, health, family support, and employment.
  • How to ask for help, including understanding where to go, what to say, and how to express your needs confidently.
  • Building early connections with neighbours, community groups, and local services.

This week helps participants feel safe, supported, and connected as they begin their new journey.

Week 2: Managing Your Budget

The second week focuses on practical money skills to help participants feel more in control of their financial wellbeing.
We cover:

  • Basic budgeting skills – tracking income, expenses, and needs vs. wants.
  • Exploring local financial and community support services, such as emergency relief, low‑cost activities, and financial counselling.
  • Setting small, achievable goals to build confidence with money management.
  • Improving wellbeing through financial stability, encouraging informed decisions and community connection.

This week empowers participants to feel more confident and independent in their financial life.

Week 3: Learning About Culture and Language

In week three, we celebrate cultural diversity and explore the benefits of multilingualism.
Participants learn about:

  • Different cultures and traditions found in the local community.
  • The meaning and value of speaking more than one language, including identity, belonging, and communication strengths.
  • How cultural understanding helps build friendships and reduce misunderstandings.
  • Sharing their own cultural stories in a safe, respectful space.

This week encourages pride in identity and strengthens cross‑cultural connections.
