2021 Vieux Château Certan $289.94
Vieux Château Certan sits at the heart of the Pomerol plateau, neighboring Pétrus. The original château dates back to around 1770. Following the French Revolution, the estate was divided, giving rise to Vieux Château Certan, Certan de May, and several other properties bearing the Certan name.

Historically regarded as the top estate in Pomerol throughout much of the 19th century, its position was later eclipsed by Pétrus. In recent decades, however, Vieux Château Certan has reasserted itself among the elite of the appellation. The estate was acquired in 1924 by Georges Thienpont, establishing the family’s presence in Bordeaux. Today, Alexandre Thienpont—who took over in 1986—leads the estate, now joined by his son Guillaume.

The vineyard spans 14 hectares in a single block, one of the largest contiguous sites on the Right Bank. Many vines are over 50 years old, with some parcels dating back to 1932. The soils sit on the famed Günz gravel terrace, composed of large pebbles over clay with an iron-rich subsoil.

The 2021 vintage is a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, aged in French oak barrels, approximately half of which are new.

2020 Les Pensées de Lafleur $201.94
Château Lafleur is a tiny, family-owned estate in Pomerol, founded in 1872 by Henri Greloud. Today, it is run by Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau, his descendants. The estate consists of several distinct parcels, each contributing to different wines within the portfolio.

Praised by Robert Parker as “one of the most distinctive and greatest wines—not only in Pomerol, but in the world,” Lafleur has achieved cult status. In a notable move, the Guinaudeau family announced that future wines would be labeled as Vin de France, prioritizing flexibility in the face of climate change over appellation prestige.

Les Pensées de Lafleur, introduced in 1987, is the estate’s second wine, sourced from the sandy gravel and clay soils of the Lafleur vineyard. The 2020 vintage is composed of 71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc, aged for approximately 15 months in barrel, with about 25% new oak.

2014 Château l’Évangile $174.94
Château l’Évangile dates back to the 18th century and has changed hands several times before being acquired in 1990 by Domaines Baron de Rothschild (Lafite). The estate is located in the eastern part of Pomerol, just south of Pétrus, on a 22-hectare vineyard of iron-rich clay and gravel soils.

The grand vin is aged in oak for approximately 18 months. The 2014 vintage is a blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new French oak.

2013 Château Trotanoy $229.94
Château Trotanoy was acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 and has long been considered one of the top estates in Pomerol. The vineyard, located on the western side of the plateau near Pétrus and Lafleur, spans 7.2 hectares.

Its soils are a dense mix of clay and gravel that harden significantly after rain, making cultivation extremely difficult—hence the name “Trotanoy,” meaning “too wearisome to cultivate.” The estate is traditionally planted almost entirely to Merlot, though more Cabernet Franc has been introduced in recent years.

Trotanoy was one of the few estates spared from the devastating frost of 1956, preserving some of the oldest vines in the region. The 2013 vintage, a challenging year, saw reduced yields, with only about 1,000 cases produced—roughly half of normal production. The blend is approximately 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, about 50% new.
