Wednesday Wander is your chance to discover the city you live in — one relaxed adventure at a time. Each month we explore a different corner of Seattle, from hidden neighbourhood gems to scenic trails and local favourites. Get together with other Aussies and Kiwis as we introduce you to Seattle’s best kept secrets.
For May's wander, we’re heading to Discovery Park for one of Seattle’s most iconic walks — a loop through forest trails, open meadows, coastal bluffs, and down to the historic West Point Lighthouse.
The route combines peaceful woodland paths with sweeping Puget Sound views, driftwood-covered beaches, and some of the best “wait, this is still Seattle?” scenery in the city. We’ll take our time, stop for photos along the way, and finish feeling pleasantly outdoorsy without requiring hiking poles or emotional resilience.
And for anyone keen afterwards, we’ll head to Petit Pierre Bakery in Magnolia for coffee and pastries.

⏰ TIME: 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM start
🚶 ACTIVITY: Approx. 4.5 miles / 7 km
💪 EFFORT LEVEL: Easy to moderate (some hills/stairs near the lighthouse)
⏱ DURATION: Allow around 2–2.5 hours including stops
👟 WEAR: Comfy walking shoes + weather-appropriate layers
☕ FOOD/DRINK: Feel free to bring water for the trail. Optional coffee & pastries afterwards at Petit Pierre Bakery in Magnolia.
🚻 RESTROOMS: Available at the North Parking Lot and at points along the loop trail
