MEETING : 10am at the junction of the A591and the lane that goes across the dam. There is a bus stop nearby and there is a parking area opposite the lane (it may be muddy). You can also park at Legburthwaite car park (there are toilets) and walk along the lane to the start point.
COST : FREE (but please consider a small charitable donation on the day (see note below)
WALK DESCRIPTION:
All welcome but you should be fit enough to walk for around 4 hours on uneven, mountainous terrain. The walk will be at a gentle pace with plenty of pauses to look at the views (if the weather is kind) and we will stop for snacks/lunch. After we've visited the summit of Raven Crag we will go and have a look at the site of the Castle Crag Hillfort and then meander back to the Dam on woodland tracks. The actual route will depend on weather conditions and the speed of the group. The walk will go ahead if it is raining but we may end up doing a lower level walk if it is very wet and windy.
PLEASE BRING:
Lunch and snacks
Water/drink of choice. It would be a good idea to bring a hot drink.
Good walking boots/shoes, comfortable clothing (not jeans), a waterproof jacket and trousers and hats/gloves/extra layers. Walking poles may be useful.
Any Medic*tion you may need.
Please note, if the weather is bad Tina may change the route or cancel the walk.
Wonderful Wild Women are fundraising for a number of charities in 2024. Tina will be collecting cash donations for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team at her walks this year with the aim of raising £100 to say thank you for coming to our assistance when one of our walkers slipped and broke her ankle. There is absolutely no obligation to donate but if you can spare a pound or two, or even a few pennies, please throw something in the pot.
Tina is a qualified mountain leader but is leading this walk on a voluntary basis.
