A beginner-friendly approach to programming!
About this Event

Are you someone who has been:

  • Looking into a career change where you can move up and feel inspired instead of feeling drained and passed over?
  • Thinking about learning to code, but didn’t know where to start?
  • Wanting to learn a bit about coding for work or for your own business?
  • Or just want to get a taste of what it’s actually like to be in a coding bootcamp without having to risk your hard-earned money to pay for one, especially when you’re not even sure it’s something you’ll like?

Then I got you covered.

My name is Michelle, and I help prospective career shifters figure out if a career in web development is right for them as a student advisor in the coding education industry. I also help working professionals learn how to use coding tools for the ever-growing tech needs of their workplace.

Before I tell you how this works, I want to ask you a question:

How much difference would it make in your life if 9 months from now you were making $70,000 per year, building, creating, and solving problems for people, all from the comfort of your desk (or even couch, or porch on a beautiful day)?

And $70k is on the low end of entry-level web development jobs.

How much difference would it make in your life if you had some basic coding skills that you could use at work, to start a side hustle, or to help you in your online business?

Now you might be thinking, “...yeah sure, maybe that happens 1 out of 1000 times, but it’s not realistic for most people.

Not Gonna Lie - it’s not realistic for most people.

I’ll set aside the fact that I’ve talked to hundreds of people who followed this path I’m going to show you. For some, it was less than 9 months, for others, it was longer. Some started under $70k, some started higher.

But, I don’t think you’re “most people,” because if you’re reading this far, then that means you’re serious, you’ve been thinking A LOT about this coding/career thing…or you just might be desperate. Good.

Now you also might be thinking, “How in-demand are coding jobs, really, do I have a chance?

Good question.

According to this study, there are almost 4 million open tech jobs in the U.S., right now.

Despite changes in the economy, the tech industry is growing.

And…

We’ve run out of ways to describe how much the demand for software engineers is increasing.” —Hired.com’s State of Software Engineers Report

If there’s ever a time to break into tech, it’s now.

But the biggest question to ask yourself… “Is becoming a web developer to pursue a job in tech right for me?

To answer that question, you have to ask yourself two more questions:

  • 1. “Do I have a taste for coding and web development?
  • 2. “Is it even feasible with my current job, family, and/or life obligations?

You might already know you have a taste for coding, but in case you don’t, question #1 is the easiest to answer. If you were to head over to YouTube right now, you could do a quick search for "beginner coding tutorials", and spend an hour learning a topic and then decide if it’s something you want to pursue.

BUT, a more successful way is to start learning at a coding workshop with others.

Why?

Coders are passionate about helping others and sharing their knowledge. When you learn in a group, you discover the tools, strategies, and approaches others are using in their coding journey. And when you get stuck, someone else is there to help you because they picked up on a subtle note you might have missed. And when someone else gets stuck, you’ll discover the satisfaction of helping them.

So, if you’re serious about figuring out if learning to code is right for you, come to my free workshop to get a taste of the feast to come.

Is Learning To Code To Land A Job In Tech Even Feasible With My Current Job, Family, And/Or Life Obligations?

Going back to school, dedicating 4 years of your life to learning, and spending $20,000, $30,000, or more on college tuition is probably out of the question. Not only that, it requires you to put your life, job, and everything else on hold. You might not have that luxury.

Maybe you’ve heard of coding bootcamps where you can spend a few months learning only the skills needed for web development.

That’s better.

However, they also can cost $10,000, $15,000, or more, and many of them are also full-time, which means you still have to quit your job. And if you find a flexible, online bootcamp (that still costs $10,000), who knows if you’ll be thrown into a class where there’s no room to get the help you need when there are 99 other students in the same class. Is that really worth it?

The third option is to teach yourself for free online. Some have made this work, but those are even more special cases. Consider the following:

  • Did you know that only 5-15% of people that take an online course actually finish? Your chances of finishing are low.
  • Do you know where to start? Are you willing to spend hours researching what should you learn? What do employers want the most, what earns the most, and which tech stack makes the most sense for which jobs?
  • Are there strategies you can employ to improve your chances of finishing?

Yes, there are—there are 7.

When you join my workshop, you’ll get answers to all these questions and more.

How Does This Work, What Do You Get?

  • You’ll spend an hour to an hour and a half in a coding workshop, specifically designed for beginners, learning the web development fundamentals, which are the building blocks that support the rest of the skills you need to get a job in tech.
  • You will meet other aspiring developers in the area so can gain extra insights about what works and what doesn’t when you learn with peers who are in the same boat.
  • You’ll have me, the instructor, as your guide to help you through each step so when you get stuck, you’re not left alone staring at a screen for hours not knowing what to do.
  • You’ll gain confidence in what you’re learning knowing that the course was built by industry professionals and its exact contents have been used to train developers that landed jobs.
  • We’ll spend the last ~30 minutes on questions and answers.

How Is This Different?

After the coding workshop portion is completed:

  • I’m going to share with you the 7 key strategies you need to use to continue your learning journey that will increase your chances of finishing an online course from 5-15% to 70-85%, which you can use as a benchmark for whatever path you choose to take.
  • I’m going to briefly share with you how my sponsor, Nucamp, the #1 coding bootcamp in the US, employs all 7 strategies to help aspiring developers finish their online learning, at a rate of 75%, and has the receipts to prove it.
  • I’m going to give you an exclusive discount Nucamp that you can use if you decide to check them out. You don’t have to buy anything and I’ll only spend a few minutes talking about them, but without them, this event would not be possible.

Who this is not for:

  • People who don’t want to learn to code
  • People who don’t need or want coding education
