Learn to process and use wild fibers for various weaving and basketry applications.Join us to explore basic weaving techniques for basketry and other projects, including how to make cordage for twining. You will learn about both cultivated and wild, foraged fibers that can be used for a variety of weaving endeavors, historical uses of different materials and how to create with combined materials.
This is a beginner's workshop in how to start looking for, processing and working with wild materials, including peeling willow bark, for various weaving techniques. You will make a small woven cattail mat (which is the basic technique for starting a basket), process yucca for the fibers and use rattlesnake master to make cordage and use for twining in your mat.
If you love it and would like to move on to a basket, you can take our beginning basketry workshop! We'll use the materials from this class to make our baskets.

This workshop is for adults and hosted at the Wild Arts Learning Center in Springfield, MO. For locals: just out east Sunshine and around the bend from Turner's Station off J Hwy. The address and directions are emailed upon booking.
