This Mother’s Day, We Really Like Her! invites you to put on your fave leopard coat and join them for a matinee of FUNNY GIRL (1968). Based on the hit Broadway show also penned by Isobel Lennart (Love Me or Leave Me, The Sundowners), this beloved movie musical firmly established Barbra Streisand as one of our greatest stars. It’s also probably one of your mom’s favourite movies, or, at the very least, reminds you of one of the amazing women in your life.
Presenting a fictionalized version of comedian Fanny Brice’s career and tumultuous relationship with gambler Nick Arnstein (played by a swoon-worthy Omar Sharif), Funny Girl is, much like Babs, a winning blend of comedy and melodrama. And it's not just her timeless performance that will sweep you off your feet. Paired with Lennart's sharp script, the lush production design, period costuming by Irene Sharaff (West Side Story, A Star is Born), and standout songs like "Don't Rain on My Parade" (duh) and "My Man" (sob) make the film's nearly three-hour runtime fly by faster than Fanny on skates.
Simply gorgeous from every angle, Funny Girl is a film that demands to be seen on the big screen. Preferably with an adoring crowd of people who need people.
