About this Event
How do local journalists maintain objectivity in their coverage of politics and elections? How do they decide which voices to amplify, which quotes to include, which claims to leave out? How do they check their facts?
Ask South Florida's leading journalists these questions and more during We Met at a Local News Forum, a free interactive event designed to help people bond with new friends and connections over a shared interest in civic engagement.
We Met in Miami and the League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade are partnering on this unique experience, with support from Share Our America, in service of fostering connection, building community, and overcoming division during this election season.
Join us at Books & Books in Coral Gables for a discussion with local journalists, as well as icebreakers and facilitated small-group conversations to help you build deeper, more meaningful connections with others who share your interests.
You’ll be wearing We Met in Miami’s signature wristbands, which show others what you’re looking for: green for love, blue for friendship and rainbow for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. (Yes, you can wear more than one!) And if you meet someone special, we’ll help you reconnect for friendship or dating after the event.
Don’t miss your chance to get the behind-the-scenes view of local political reporting, from our special guests:
- Roger Borges, a bilingual journalist who has covered politics, breaking news and entertainment for Univision and other major television networks.
- Wilkine Brutus, Palm Beach County reporter for WLRN, South Florida’s NPR station.
- Glenna Milberg, reporter for WPLG Local 10 and host of the weekly public affairs show, “This Week in South Florida.”
- Isadora Rangel, member of the Miami Herald’s editorial board and former political reporter.
Light bites and refreshments will be provided. Food and beverages are also available for purchase from The Cafe at Books & Books.
Municipal lots and garages, as well as PayByPhone parking options, are available in the area surrounding Books & Books.
