About this Event

"In order to create a new world, we must first imagine it” - adrienne maree brown

Join us for the third event in our series of movement-building gatherings in Glasgow, all about visioning the kind of world we want to live in and work towards. During this event we will hear from a range of speakers, share examples of how people are organising for a liberatory future and have workshops with practical skills. There will also be lots of time for connecting with others over delicious food, and we will close with an open mic to showcase all the creativity in our movement.

Confirmed speakers so far include: Jessica Gaitán Johannesson (author & climate justice activist), Kevin Blowe (NETPOL) & Nathalia Urban, Numbrella Lane’s coordinator, National Ugly Mugs. More to come!

"You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world, and you have to do it all the time- Angela Davis

Imaging a better world, and acting on this hope does not mean ignoring the losses, or the scale of change required. But hopelessness and despair are convenient to those who wish to preserve the status quo, because they take away our belief in our collective power to come together to create change.

Join us on Saturday 18th May to dream beyond the state, borders and criminalisation. We are surrounded by systems that seek to divide us, and dehumanise and dispose of those that disrupt them. The way our economy currently works requires sacrificial places and people, from communities displaced for mineral mines, to families in cold, damp homes while energy companies make billions in profit, to people drowning in the sea because they have been denied a safe way to seek a new home. Those who resist or disrupt, whether that is through protest, organising or doing what they need to to survive, face backlash and punishment.

What the establishment cannot contain, it smashes.”- Aviah Sarah Day and Shanice McBean, Abolition Revolution

We are told these injustices are inevitable and unavoidable, but we know that another world is possible. One where we transform our relationships with each other and with the earth. Where we reject the idea that some people are disposable and we prioritise  care, safety and wellbeing for all.

We’ve had to create our own ways of supporting ourselves when our government refuses to do so, or actively tries to destroy us. We have always had to rely on each other. - Cradle Community, Brick by Brick

In our movements and communities, many are already building this reality, through mutual aid, solidarity and campaigning.

We invite everyone interested in creating a fairer world to join us for a day of exploring radical possibilities, creative thinking and working together so noone is left behind.

This event will build on previous gatherings on the 3 March and 7 April but is open to anyone. We’re gathering again on the weekend of 29-30 June, and you’re very much invited. More info about the whole series here.
