Most folks in Bellingham know two things about “Dirty Dan” Harris:(1) he was the founder of Fairhaven, and
(2) he never took a shower or a bath.
Who was Dirty Dan? He might be called a real estate tycoon, a storyteller, an entrepreneur, a merchant, a developer, an explorer and adventurer, a sailor and whaler, and a smuggler, but also a misogynist and a hermit. Author Leon Greene will discuss his attempt to synthesize Dan’s many qualities in his forthcoming book, Dirty Dan Harris: Scandalous Father of Fairhaven.

WCHS Programs are held in the Roeder Home, located at 2600 Sunset Drive in Bellingham. Street parking plus accessible parking at the rear of the building. There is room for 50 people to sit in the presentation room.
The Whatcom County Historical Society offers regular programming on the second Thursday of the month, from October - April. All Thursday programs are entirely free and open to the public.
