Wax Jaw has rapidly climbed the rungs of an expansive Philly music scene following the 2023 release of their debut EP "Between the Teeth." A formidable opening statement from the band, the EP is a collection of catchy punk tunes – most of which have been sun-kissed with surfy guitar tones and permeated with new wave danceability. The release was immediately picked up by Abandon Everything Records and followed up with multiple sold out shows at home and on the road while touring in the U.S. and Canada.
Buzz surrounding the band is primarily fueled by their high-octane live shows, where it’s not unusual for members to dive into the crowd after taking command of the stage with a fierce and unbridled tenacity. Whether fans want to dance or thrash, Wax Jaw brings enough raw energy and BPM to get the blood pumping. Led by charismatic frontman Shane Morgan, the band has cut their teeth alongside psych-rock titans Wine Lips, brit-punk royalty Bad Nerves, and indie angels Shannon & The Clams.
Their new single “Boy’s Life” will be released via Born Losers Records on October 18th, 2024. A song about trans visibility, “Boy’s Life” captures Shane’s lived experience as a queer trans masculine person struggling to embrace his truth in a world that often uses the queer community as a political chess piece. The track overflows with gay rage as Shane refuses to be a pawn in the hypocritical games of those who seek to serve only themselves.
Light Beams
FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | SPOTIFY | BANDCAMP
On their new album Wild Life, DC dance punks Light Beams paint a surreal portrait of a world filtered through front person Justin Moyer’s recent experiences as a protest reporter (and a member of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol). The shadow of the attack looms large over the record as the quintet acutely distills nine songs into a twenty-five-minute package that voyages through insurrection deep into the bittersweet heart of 21st-century America. From their self-titled debut album through 2020’s Self Help, Light Beams have eschewed traditional melody instruments in favor of Moyer’s minimalist samplers and vocals, Sam Lavine’s drumming and Arthur Noll’s basslines. On Wild Life, they expand this palette with the addition of Leah Gage (vocals, rototoms) and Erin McCarley (vocals, timbales, samples). In September of '24, Fiona Khorman stepped in for Erin. The result: bigger sounds, bigger themes, and a bigger canvas.
