This second installment of the series explores the Miccosukee Tribe’s legal battle to shut down an immigration detention center built on land they hold sacred within Big Cypress National Preserve an area the Tribe helped protect 50 years ago by blocking the construction of a massive airport. Now as political forces led by Governor Ron DeSantis push forward with plans that threaten the land water and sovereignty of Florida’s Indigenous people the Miccosukee are once again standing firm.
