About this Event
Hey Saint John Art Lovers! We are back at the Arts Centre for a very special edition of our Watercolour Social! This time, we’re exploring the different ways artists think when using different paints.
To show you exactly how it works, I’ve invited a very special guest: Heejin Vihvelin, a professional oil painter, instructor, and curator of the "Painters Circle" at KV Public Library.
What’s happening at this meetup:
The Big Comparison: I (Svitlana Goncharova) will start with a short talk on watercolour logic vs. oils and acrylics. I’ll be sharing insights from my "One-Touch" method, which has been used by over 100 students this past year with great success!
Side-by-Side Demo: Heejin and I will paint the exact same scene at the same time. You’ll see step-by-step how we build our paintings differently.
Paint Along & Q&A: We will share the reference photo in our chat before the event so you can sketch it at home and paint along with us!
Coffee & Social: SJAC is providing coffee, and you are welcome to bring some snacks or treats to share!
The Raffle: Everyone gets a free ticket for a chance to win a special watercolour prize!
Important: Registration Required
The event is FREE, but space is limited. Please make sure to get your free ticket through Eventbrite as soon as possible to save your spot!
Materials & Rules:
- Please bring your own watercolour supplies. I’ll have a few spare brushes and palettes for emergencies, but it's best to have your own.
- Important: Only watercolour is allowed in the gallery for participants. An exception is made only for our guest presenter.
Volunteers Needed!
I am looking for a few helpers:
- Someone to help me take photos and videos on my iPhone.
- Two people to help with setup (arriving early) and cleanup (staying a bit later).
If you want to help, please message me directly via Facebook DM or text me at 506-654-2370 so we can coordinate ahead of time!
Supporting the Venue:
SJAC gives us this space for free. To help with coffee and cleaning, we invite you to leave a small voluntary donation ($5–$10). It’s not a fee, just a way to say thanks!
