Japanese Masa paper fractures color into a beautiful network of lines similar to those used in batik. We will use masa paper and other rice paper to create a painting of leaves or flowers on the first day (please bring photos of these subjects) and of a waterfall on regular watercolor paper on the second day.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Karen Kappell is a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration with a master’s degree in art and a lifetime of teaching experience. She has been painting with watermedia for more than 25 years and has offered workshops for Dillman’s, Manito Art League and Lakeland Art League in Northern Wisconsin, as well as at centers in Iowa and Washington state. She incorporates traditional techniques and new approaches in both her paintings and in her approach to teaching.
