This course is designed for confident beginners and intermediate-level students. Some watercolor experience is helpful, but no drawing experience is required. You will build on your basic techniques to channel the Masters. Each week a different Master artist is revealed to provide you with a spontaneous challenge. By painting and following along, you will learn the techniques of the surprise Master artist, journeying toward finding your own individuality and creative style. You will utilize basic watercolor techniques in traditional and non-traditional applications; apply fundamentals of color theory, composition, and experiment with textural techniques. This course will help you break through your fears and explore new observational views on environments for inspiration. Each class session will begin with open forum and feedback/Q&A and end with a completed work of art.Week 1: Introduction and discussion on supplies, techniques and art terms; overview on watercolor pastels, watercolor markers, Conte pastels, gold applications, glass transparency, masking, and watercolor surface options. Master artist revealed.
Week 2: Symbolism and abstraction studies, gold, textures, shapes, washes, splatter. Master artist revealed.
Week 3: Atmospheric landscape painting; loose compositions. Master artist revealed.
Week 4: Object painting; transparency, shadowing, light casting. Master artist revealed.
Week 5: Movement in painting; techniques, style. Master artist revealed.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: You will be guided on art material pros and cons beginning in the first class, do not over purchase! If you have supplies, bring what you have! We will work in our first class to discover what works best for you. A full list of suggested supplies will be provided in the welcome email before the course begins.
