Help us finalise our design for our dream compost toilet at Mile End Community Garden!
About this Event

If humans are part of nature, and if everything we make once came from the earth, how can our waste materials also be reconciled within the ecosystems we are part of?

Join us for our third and final community compost co-design workshop at Mile End Community Garden. With our design brief in hand we will bring our dream to life with a collaborative drawing session, incorporating drawings, ideas, and constraints from past sessions.

We will incorporate justice centred design principles, recognising that real liberatory access "understands addressing inaccessibility and ableism as an opportunity for building deeper relationships with each other, realigning ourselves with our values and what matters most to us, and challenging oppression... It is solidarity, an exhale, it is awareness and understanding and connection and communication which counts for so much - even when things aren't always accessible, access intimacy can make it more bearable." (Mia Mingus , 2017, ')

So book your place now to be part of shaping the future of toilets - toilets that are designed by the community, connected to living systems and centre justice, access and care.

To be kept in the loop about our next workshop series on material selection and sourcing, and our compost toilet community build days please join our mailing list.

Mile End Community Garden uses permaculture practices to create a unique space for gardening, relaxing and food growing. The front of the garden features raised beds planted with vegetables, herbs and flowers while the back garden is a deliberately left wild to foster increased biodiversity in the area.

Compost Mentis is an alternative sanitation co-op working for ecological and social justice in everyday urban spaces. Founded in Tower Hamlets, they have built and retrofitted several successful community compost toilets in Tower Hamlets and Newham
