About this Event
Morris County Historical Society is pleased to partner with local historians and history organizations to present a Morris County Walking Tour Series that celebrates the area’s rich and diverse past. From April through October, join us for nearly 40 guided walking tours that explore almost two dozen communities throughout Morris County, with topics ranging from unique historic districts, downtowns, and neighborhoods to local industries that shaped the landscape, and the individuals who left a lasting impact.
Step back 250 years and discover why settlers chose this location, what priorities shaped their community, and which buildings were built first. Stand before what was once the village’s iconic stone fortress—its walls an impressive three feet thick—and hear the legend of when George Washington slept there. Learn how this small settlement grew in importance and why Washington Township—the first in NJ to be named after George Washington—is regarded as historically significant today. The tour will begin at the Society’s museum, located at 6 Fairview Avenue, Long Valley, NJ 07853. Free parking is available just three minutes away at Zion Lutheran Church, 11 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Long Valley. Tours will depart at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 p.m.
FREE. Rain/Shine. Space is limited to 10 per tour, pre-registration required.
