Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, in cooperation with the Forest Grove Office of the Oregon Department of Forestry, are excited to announce the 2026 Washington County Basic Wildland Firefighter Academy (S130, S190 & L180).
There are no tuition costs to attend this training.
Class will be hosted the FGF&R Station 4, located at 1919 Ash Street, Forest Grove.
Class will be Friday-Sunday, May 15-16-17, 2026, 0800-1700. You must attend the entireity of all three days, and complete all session and skills stations in order to receive credit for this wildland academy. Partial credit will not be awarded.
Unless you receive instructions from the academy coordinator, Patrick Wineman (FGF&R), or the Academy Lead Instructor, Kevin Geary (ODF), students should plan to attend in department issued uniform. For the field day, students will also be required to bring full wildland PPE, including:
- Nomex shirt/jacket;
- Nomex pants;
- Wildland helmet;
- Eye protection;
- Leather wildland-style gloves;
- Department-approved wildland firefighting boots;
- Wildland-style web gear w/ hydration pack or bottle & firefighter shelter
Students would come prepared with appropriate note-taking materials inclduing paper & pen/pencil, as well as your own lunch or money to go purchase your own lunch during class lunch breaks.
