Washing Hearts opens a threshold between artist and audience — neighbor to neighbor, heart to heart.
A central part of the work involves the physical washing of a real pig heart. Some audience members will be invited to participate directly in this act; others may choose to remain observers. All forms of presence are welcome.
Please note: Real pig hearts will be used in this performance. By attending, you acknowledge that you will be in shared proximity to animal organs, whether or not you choose to participate. This piece is gentle but visceral — raw, honest, and close to the skin.
Originally presented at the Mission Cultural Center in San Francisco (2015), Washing Hearts continues to evolve through these live, intimate encounters. Join us for an evening of witnessing, reflection, and quiet communion.
Tania Figueroa is a multidisciplinary Latin American artist from Chile whose visceral, hybrid work explores identity, memory, and social transformation. Her practice moves across performance, installation, photography, poetry, and mixed media, not to blend disciplines, but to let them collide, revealing new emotional and political languages. As a Latin American immigrant in the U.S., Tania creates from the thresholds between places and histories, what is carried, what is forgotten, and what survives in transit. Her work is raw, layered, and instinctive, embracing imperfection, rupture, and deep listening as generative forces. With a focus on migration, resilience, and the power of the fragment, Tania’s art invites audiences into spaces of intimacy, tension, and quiet resistance. She doesn’t offer resolution, she makes space for what still aches.
