About this Event
Wanzie’s original LADIES OF EOLA HEIGHTS is the record-breaking smash hit comedy/drama which holds the distinction of being the most successful show ever to be presented at the Footlight Theatre. LADIES OF EOLA HEIGHTS shattered all previous box office records during its historic 9-month run, resulting in tour buses of senior citizens attending the show from all over Central Florida and from as far away as Ocala, Lakeland and Port Orange, who happily sat alongside young gay-club-goers to enjoy the show.
“Record breaking longevity is what happens when a master of wretched excess like Wanzie adds a gentle subtext of female empowerment to one his Southern Gothic bitch fests.” - Steve Schneider, Orlando Weekly
Professionally captured via a three-camera shoot by Lantern Light Studios with separate independent professional sound recording, this video has the look and sound quality of a slick TV sitcom which will be greatly enhanced by experiencing it on the big screen at The Abbey.
This screening - dedicated to the memory of Doug Bowser and Sam Singhaus - provides the perfect opportunity to witness Doug’s great acting range within a single vehicle as he deftly shifts from broad humor to introspective and heart wrenching dramatic moments and right back to the funny again without missing a beat.
No one involved will be deriving compensation from this screening and 100% of proceeds will be evenly split between two charities:
50% of proceeds will benefit Greater Orlando Performing Arts Relief - GOPAR - for which both Doug and Sam were early supporters and fundraisers, and -
50% percent of proceeds will benefit a soon-to-be announced special scholarship being created by Orlando Fringe, which will bear Doug’s name and will be awarded to a Fringe artist or troupe who excels at Doug’s brand of comedy at each upcoming Festival to be presented in memory of our friend and comic genius, Doug (Ba’Aser) Bowser.
Doors/Cash Bar will open at 3 pm
