About this Event
OVERCOME WRITER’S BLOCK, BECOME A BETTER WRITER & HAVE FUN WITH WRITING AT THE WRITE ABOUT NOW ACADEMY (WANA)
WANA is a year long schedule of instructor-facilitated virtual writing classes.
Every month we are offering writing intensives facilitated by some of the most talented poets from all across the globe.
Each master class will focus on a different topic, but will leave you feeling empowered, enlightened, and elevated in your craft.
If you can't make it at the scheduled time, register anyway! You will also have access to the recordings and workshop material just in case you miss a class or wish to revisit a class you attended.
THIS MONTH'S WORKSHOP: On The Spot Poetic Thoughts: The Art of Improvised Poetry
Does your mic work need work? Looking to gain more confidence and creativity when speaking candidly to an audience? Or just trying to find a way to break out of that creative slump and change the way you approach your work? Well, you've come to the right place.
In this workshop, seasoned spoken word poet and teaching artist Christian Perfas will guide you through his carefully crafted process of poetic improvisation and show you how to "freestyle with finesse." With his deep background in theatre, long form improv, and hip-hop, Christian meticulously and systematically breaks down the beast of "improv" and shows how utilizing a game-based mindset on stage can ease that enormous pressure we often put on ourselves as high-achieving artists. Join your fellow patrons of poetic play in a series of writing exercises, group work, and personalized constructive feedback and hopefully you too will leave with a bigger and better toolkit for making things up like a pro!
