ARTY factCrab looked puzzled as he sat on the doorstep. He knew snow. He’d known it since his first trip north. He’d seen it fall, eaten it and rolled in it. He’d peed in it and seen it melt.
He also knew the sky. As a puppy he’d howled at the moon. He’d spent years staring at the North Star and Canes Vanatici and following shooting stars. But this was different. Things were changing. (Fragment 82, 2025).
In the past we might have expected rain, snow, bird poo, possibly the occasional apple, and even a rare bit of meteorite to fall from the sky. However, more recently, with the development of commercial space travel (like Space X) drone warfare and drone parcel delivery, who knows what will fall on our heads!
For me, the initial germs of creativity are intangible. When inspiration takes hold, thoughts start to formulate but ideas only really begin to take shape when I put them into words or paint. The process of manifesting them can be engrossing and frustrating or pure bliss. Whatever the experience, the result is an artifact which holds the inspiration. If this, in some way, generates a strong emotional response or inspires then I would consider it an Artyfact.
Walter's exhibition will be viewable through the window of the gallery until 04 January 2026.
