Walla Crag by Ashness Bridge [Keswick] - National Park Guided Walk

Start point: Keswick Library (Main Entrance), Heads Lane, Keswick

A walk to one of the most photographed bridges in the Lake District, Ashness Bridge, before ascending up to the viewpoint of Walla Crag, a Wainwright fell.

Starting from the centre of Keswick, the walk follows the lakeshore path to Great Wood, and follows an elevated path to reach the iconic Ashness Bridge. A gradual climb leads up to the summit of Walla Crag (379m/1,243ft). The views of Derwent Water and the fells beyond are magnificent.

After enjoying the views from the top, the walk heads downhill, through a semi-natural woodland, back to Keswick.

Paths are generally good, but there are some sections which are stony, with tree roots and others that will be muddy in poor weather.

Grade 5 walks are our most challenging full day walks which involve going onto the fell summits. These walks require a good level of fitness and full walking kit appropriate for the weather conditions. Some people may find walking poles useful. You may encounter sustained climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces can be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, irregular steps, stiles or narrow gates and gaps.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. Weather permitting, we will be stopping for a short break on route so please bring refreshments if you wish.
