Walks4Change will walk a mile (or two) in the shoes of the pioneering protestors that led the Bristol Bus Boycott.
About this Event

When Rosa Parks sat down, Bristol stood up and marched, and on the day it defeated the Colour Bar, Martin Luther King Had A Dream. The bravery of the Bristol Bus Boycott also paved the way for the Race Relations Act 1965, the UK's first-ever anti-racist legislation.

On May 5th and May 6th, from 12.00 - 3.30pm, join us for an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the pioneering protestors who led the Bristol Bus Boycott. From plaques, busts and exhibitions to outdoor screenings, stained glass windows, and more, Walks4Change will visit sites connected to the ongoing work commemorating the Boycott's legacy. Focussing on a square mile of the city centre, this guided tour will last 3.5 hours and includes several resting and refreshment stops.

The ticket prices are:

  • Adult £10 (18+)
  • Children £4 ( 6 -17)
  • Children under 5 are free

Please note:

At the end of the walk on Sunday, May 5th, walkers can join us for a pint and chat with the Bristol Bus Boycott pioneers.

At the end of the walk on Monday, the 6th, walkers are invited to join us in a live re-enactment of the demo from the Peoples Plinth up to College Green. We will have banners and flags and join the Diaspora Festival's closing party to celebrate Paul Stephenson's birthday.

Walks4Change occurs during the 61st anniversary of when the Bristol Bus Boycott began and is part of Bristol Bus Boycott 360. This three-year initiative is co-creating 360 ways to honour its legacy and tackle and defeat racial inequality in Bristol and beyond. Walks4Change is also proudly part of Bristol WalkFest and Diaspora Fest!
