Your Guide: Ami Greener is a native of Jerusalem, Israel, where he got his feet wet as a tour guide in the biblical zoo, and leading three day long educational hikes along the old Jaffa to Jerusalem railroad. He has called DC home since 2007, and has been leading historical Hebrew tours of the DC area since 2016.

The Tour: Who was the first US president to visit a DC synagoge while in office, and why did he donate $10? Why did the first synagogue built in DC have wheels? Which historic synagogue was saved at the last minute from turning into a nightclub? And who were the first Jews to live in this new city on the Potomac?

In the early 20th century the area around 7th st in today's Chinatown was the center of Jewish life in DC - a community that was unlike any other North American Jewish community. In this walking tour we will follow in their footpaths, learn about where they lived and worked (often right above the shop!) and visit four unique synagogues that were active over a century ago.

Tour Begins at the Judiciary Square Metro's North Exit, just south of the National Building Museum. The duration is approximately 2 hours and ends near Gallery Place Metro. Option to finish at an Israeli restaurant for a chat with the guide.
