London has been destroyed fictionally many times in books films and paintings. The walk will involve readings from some of these works, allowing the walkers to contrast the current surroundings with the imagined world of the author. We will consider the various reasons that writers have felt the need to see London in ruins, looking at works by HG Wells, JG Ballard, Mary Shelley, George Orwell, John Wyndham and others
The walk finishes at Green Park Station
Here's a review of the walk
"Rob Smith's "London Destroyed!" walk on 15th October was a delight from start to finish. We set off from Westminster, encountering Roman references of a burning London. We finished a couple of hours later by Green Park, having re-imagined along the way and across time, the various scenarios of a London destroyed through excellently-chosen literary excerpts. Informative and interesting."
